What is the right size dual-density dildo, for you??? Dual-layer toys are magical for creating a better realistic feel, in body-safe silicone – but what’s the best first one to pick?
Here at Plug Size, we love numbers! They’re tools to get the best fit – but you gotta know where to start. If you jump in too big, you’re likely to be frustrated and think you’ll never use a toy.
You can size up safely – over time. You just can’t use a “too big for you” toy within a week; the stretching process might take a few months. Ultimately it’s on us to read the dimensions closely – if we want get just the right size STAT.
But, so many makers give dildo dimensions that are imprecise! I’ve put together this complete dual-density dildo dimensions guide, complete with maximum diameter images and extended table.
Our Favorite Dual-Density Sex Toys
First, listing our favorite dual-layer dildos out of ’em all. All dildos discussed here are platinum silicone, so they don’t break down after only months, like “real feel” TPE dual-layer dildos do. All these silicone dildo don’t need special care or maintenance. Just wash with soap and water.
- Uberrime Splendid: Prostate dildo. (M, my favorite.)
- Solina Large and Mega XL (F, her favorites for realistic now – she likes the “XL” medium size most, but thinks the smaller “large” one is very good too.)
- Neo Elite 7.5″ with Balls. We have two, since we’ve both liked this dildo over the last several years. It’s P-spot/G-spot orientation is clear, yet it’s less girthy vs. the Uberrime Splendid – so it’s an easier starter dildo. Its silicone is good, but not as softly smooth as Solina nor as slick as Splendid.
What is a dual-density dildo, anyway?
“Dual density” means “two firmness” because these dildos have a soft outside, hard inside. The idea is they feel squeezable / soft like human skin to the touch – then, they have that firm interior, so that they go for “erect” feel too.
Dual-layer dildos made of safe platinum-cured silicone were first crafted by Vixen Creations as “VixSkin” approximately 20 years ago.
The goal is to make them feel more human, with the soft yet hard combination.
Dual-layer dildos, another name for dual-density dildos, are suitable for anal use. VixSkin is great, smushy outside and gentle – yet expensive. (We’ve explored a number of affordable dual-layer still safe silicone toys, as a result.)
Dual-density silicone is similar to any soft silicone product: you can store them touching each other, very safe.
Dual-Density Silicone versus Super-Soft Silicone
But if you are truly sizing up – you want a big and/or deep toy – do keep in mind that just super-soft silicone is easier for anal thrusting. And for wider anal expansion, too: 100% soft is easier to work with.
The lack of hard core will allow a 100% soft dildo to flex more with the rectum, and its curves; and then toy with probing/entering the colon’s sigmoid bend, more readily vs. a firm-center “dual-density” silicone dildo.
So, dual-density is most realistic. But, the rectum bends, so thrusting with super-soft silicone (no firm core) is gentler and some people prefer that yielding nature. For prostate play specifically, I like dual-density because it helps keep the curve, the dildo’s head angling forward and down, pressing and stroking my prostate gland. But, I like super-softs for fastest deeper play, and hard riding.
Choose by Girth: Thinnest to Thickest Dual-Density
Thickness / a.k.a. “width,” girth, circumference and diameter are all words that give us an indication of how wide a dildo is. It is the main barrier to usage: if a toy is too wide up-top, you won’t be able to get it inserted fast. If it’s too long, in contrast, you can opt to not insert the final inches.
Remember to know where you’re starting from. Measure your previous toy that’s still comfortably wide, using a soft tape measure. Eyeball the diameter as closely as you can, in good light so you can see clearly. Slide the tape measure up and down, to make sure you are taking the widest point that your body is accommodating.
When deciding to purchase a larger dildo (or butt plug!), it is easier to increase only 0.3 inch diameter wider (vs. your previous “comfort zone”) at a time. More anal-width stretching pro tips, here.
From smallest diameter, to widest, in dual-density platinum silicone toys – quick dimensions recap. (See full table for further detail.) All specs refer to insertable length & width (not the base or balls / not total height).
- Neo Elite 6″ Tapered: 1.25″ diameter × 4.95″ length. Max. diameter at 100% down its insert. length (= the very bottom). The small one.
- Neo Elite 7.5″ with Balls: 1.51″ diameter × 5.54″ length. Max. diameter at 44.5% down its length (mid-shaft). Decent medium-size for G-spot/Prostate.
- Solina Mega Large: 1.53″ diameter × 6.61″ length. Max. diameter at 100% down its length. Ultra-real feel (silicone!) medium realistic.
- VixSkin Mustang. 1.6″ diameter × 5.73″ length. Max. diameter at 100% down its length. Classic dual-density P/G-spotter.
- Solina Mega XL: 1.78″ diameter × 7.” length. Max. diameter at 18.4% down its length (= the head; but the shaft is nearly as thick, a consistent 1.75″ diameter). Ultra-realistic body-safe. Thicker but not super-sized dildo. Great for vaginal (Lila’s new favorite) – but know it doesn’t yield easily for anal depth. Solina XL has a more erect core vs. Neo Elite 7.5″s, so she says Solina feels less “floppy.”
- Uberrime Splendid (medium): 1.82″ diameter × 5.79″ length. Max. diameter at 29.7% down its length (head ridge). Just amazing for prostate play and pegging, the head really massages.
- Naked Addiction Dual Density: 1.68″ diameter × 5.49″ length. Max. diameter at 67.9% down its length (lower-mid-shaft). Tapered, shorter, tight realistic balls.
- Neo Elite 7.5″. 1.55″ diameter × 7.08″ length. Max. diameter at 100% down its length (bottom of shaft). Longer tapered progression, smaller head.
- Blush Ergo: 1.75″ diameter ×5.22″ length. Max. diameter at 30.5% down its length (at head ridge). OK non-realistic dildo. Its silicone is more gummy / sticky than other options.
- Solina Mega XXL: 2.02″ diameter × 8.51″ length. Max. diameter at 29.1% down its length (upper shaft under head). Super-realistic, wide and thick toy – get this if you like big cocks with skin-feel and erect non-flexibility.
- VixSkin Maverick: 2.05″ diameter × 6.44″ length. Max. diameter at 45.7% down its length (secondary bulge, under main ridge). Big head, curved for P- or G-.
- Neo Elite 10″. 2.40″ diameter × 8.40″ length. Max. diameter at 37% down its length (upper shaft under head). Huge dildo. Very thick core, be ready for this super-sized one. It is not a flexible toy.
- Neo Elite 11″: 2.37″ diameter × 8.69″ length. Max. diameter at 16.7% down its length (at head ridge). Same comment as the 10″.
- Luminous Stud big-headed dildo: 2.07″ diameter × 7.91″ length. Max. diameter at 23.9% down its length (=at large head ridge).
- VixSkin Gambler. 2.5″ diameter head, 2.3″ diameter mid-shaft, 2.7″ diameter at widest – and 10+ inches usable. The giant. Largest dual-density dildo in production.

Diameter vs. Circumference = Width vs. Girth
Most silicone dildo manufacturers provide “width” dimensions, meaning diameter. This is true of every dual-density dildo I can find.
Versus diameter (the distance across), circumference is our other key width measurement. Circumference = girth, the distance around the exterior of the dildo.
Diameter = Across. Circumference = Around (Exterior circle / oval).
An approximate conversion of the two requires our good friend pi, π – Remembering middle-school geometry can bring you better sex toys, who knew??? Diameter is always small than circumference, so remember you divide by pi (about 3.14) to move from circ. to diam.; or multiply diam. by pi to make it larger, equaling the bigger circumference around your toy. (You’ll get a pretty close approximation, though many dildos are ovoid, so there will be a margin of error for these dildo dimension conversions.)
Or just use a conversion tool if C=π×d and d=C/π is escaping your memory!
