All-Day Butt Plug Wear – How-to & safety tips

Butt plugs are king, for secret anal stimulation. Throughout the day, as you go about your routine – now more interesting, as you’re full of plug.

This wear can seem hot in a dirty way. Many people enjoy all-day butt plugging for the secret naughty element, and/or for the sensation of being filled.

The key with long-term plugging is: If you want to do it, you’ll do it. But, do it safely to not overexert and hurt yourself – avoiding fissures and over-stressing your anal sphincter muscles.

As someone who plugs for between 7 and 12 hours a day, 4 days a week on average, this is my advice on how to wear a butt plug all day, safely – and good discreet plugs.

Best butt plugs for long-term wear

Having a well-designed anal plug makes all-day wear so much easier.

A few sets of plugs rule them all, as far as longer wear goes. Each is available in multiple sizes, employs a thin-enough neck to not pop out, is made of a skin-safe (“body-safe”) sanitizable material, and has well-flared base that doesn’t chafe. Here’s why for each of the 3 best butt plugs to wear all day:

  1. Snug Plugs. Thin necks + weighted balls in plug body. Each Snug Plug’s slim neck has plenty of drop-off from the plug’s widest point above – over 70% size decrease, vs. an average of 30% to 40% for most plugs! Yet, the bulb above is weighted and wider, so you’re not lacking girth (and the biggest Snug Plugs get huge). It’s a great combo, and the thin base is a perfect design, sandwiched into the butt crack like butter on bread. The weighted balls IMO are best in Snug Plug sizes 4 and 5– rolling as you walk, lean over, move your hips for any reason.
  2. Pure Plugs. Slick stainless steel. HEFTY weight, here, but still a good wear. I personally will wear a Pure Plug (large) for about 7 hours and decide, “Enough, done for the day.” Yet I’ve read a few dozen other reports where Pure Plugs are worn longer. (The Pure Plug 2.0 is a different story: Very heavy, stressful for really extended terms of wear– but incredible shorter-term.) The Pure Plugs do have short necks. They fit great for most people, but perhaps not for the tallest bodies. (Snug Plugs have the longest necks.) Over-lubed Pure Plugs can actually extricate themselves, slipping out. So, apply less lube here vs. with a silicone butt plug.
  3. Egg Plugs. My personal best daily wear butt plug, for comfortable stretch (since I like anal width). Everyone who likes anal fullness must try at least one Egg Plug – they’re an OG. The super-soft silicone is indeed soft, so it compresses somewhat. Select about 0.5″ circumference more than in (firmer) butt plugs. Egg Plugs get massive, so choose your size smartly.

Non-vibrating plugs are the most discreet all day anal plug (my 3 choices above do not vibrate). If you’re working from home: Have a conference call? No one can tell you’re wearing a solid butt plug. The same if you’re out in public. It just seems polite to not have your butt buzzing for others to hear.

Not to mention, vibrators’ li-ion batteries have a shorter run-time per charge vs. mobile devices: vibrating sex toys never last more than 4 hours per recharge, and often last 2 hours or less. No all day butt plugging with a running vibrator, unfortunately.

How to all-day buttplug

Here I’m coining a quick acronym PLOWRR (“plower”): it signifies safe working-up + some resting period is key.

  • Progressively longer (in time). Work upward in chunks of no more than an hour extra wear. To move from wearing a butt plug for just a couple hours to 8–10 hours, it’s better to spend at least 6 weeks transitioning, increasing slowly in as far as how long each plugging go-’round lasts. With practice, you will reach all-day plug wear in time, there’s no rush!
  • Longer *OR* Wider – Don’t leap up in both wear-time and plug size simultaneously. Essentially, don’t go too long + too big, too fast. If you’re sizing up (guidelines here), remember that 1″ max. circumference increase – and don’t lengthen your wear time until you’re solidly comfortable with a larger plug’s size for at least 3 sessions.
  • Relube. Having long-lasting anal lubricant is critical here. Normal water-based lubes off a store shelf are not good choices, even if claiming to be “anal lubricant.” Premixed lubes will have an acidic pH – good for vaginal, but not anal. X-Lube is the only water-based I’d suggest. And even better, virgin coconut oil is! for all-day butt plug wear. With coconut oil, that’s applied well into my rectum, I’m comfortable for 4–5 hours wearing a good plug. After which, I may sense some dryness and apply lubricant again.
  • Rest sometimes. Take a day off occasionally. It’s good to let your sphincter muscles rest. Stop for at least 1 day a week, probably 2 – especially if you wear for more than 6–8 hours plus per all-day plug session.

Best Lubricant to wear with a butt plug all day

More on anal lubricant application – and re-lubrication intervals during all-day plug wear: This is most tricky if you are not at home. Non-water-based lubricant lasts longer. That means 100% oil-based and silicone lubricants. A quick break to relube, halfway through, only helps with comfort if you’re seeking to keep a butt plug in all day.

You do not have to remove the entire plug when reapplicating the lubricant, but do get the lower part of the bulb, at least

Extra virgin coconut oil is preferred for big and extended wear butt plugging. If you’re out, you can employ a liquid form (this brand has worked for me). Put it in any kind of sealed travel bottle with dispenser tip (search for “empty travel bottle,” anything like this). This works because liquid coconut oil remains liquid at lower temperatures vs. normal coconut oil, which begins to solidify at temps. under 76°F.

Snug Plug 5 lubricated with coconut oil.

It has anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties naturally, and no preservatives nor emulsifiers. Coconut oil is safe on silicone plugs, or stainless steel (or glass). It is better for any silicone vs. olive oil. (Coconut oil receives an “A” rating for compatibility with silicone, vs. olive oil’s “C” rating.)

Wash your plug thoroughly with soap right after you take it out. The coconut oil will scrub off within a minute of lathering.

Coconut oil (non-liquid) is solid at room temperature. A good $15 jar will last me 6 months. Scoop with a clean spoon, then heat for 15 seconds in the microwave to melt. Ensure it is not too warm before putting on a plug (if you mean to insert immediately).

But with oil, be mindful of your angle, as to not spill oil on your clothing or fabrics.

X-Lube put in a to-go container is another pick if you are out, and need to relube during the day. It has the advantage of not staining underwear. Mixing this polyethylene oxide powder to the right consistency may take trial and error. Mixed as directed, it is very gel-like. Mix into warm water slowly to avoid clumps.

For the Pure Plugs (by Njoy) you may use silicone lubricant. Silicone lube is suitable with stainless steel or glass plugs – not so good on silicone plugs. Silicone lubricant on a Pure Plug is sufficient for 6 hours, for me.

I’ve read of people lasting over 24 hours with a Pure Plug and silicone lubricant, but I do not recommend more than 4 to 8 hours without re-lubricating as a general rule. Listen to your body, your own comfort zone, and do what needs to be done.

How long can you wear a butt plug?

Good all-day butt plugs have bases that won’t rub you raw, but how do you know when it’s time to stop?

You’ll start to feel the discomfort, coming on slowly.

You can ignore it for a little while. It may be your hole drying out too, if your lube’s run out. This happens to me anywhere after 4 to 5 hours (having used coconut oil or silicone lubricant).

If you reapply lubricant and still sense any kind of burning or over-extended feeling, it is time for a rest.

As with big width stretching, all-day plugging is safer when you’ve learned to tune into your body’s own signals.

How long you can safely wear the anal plug will vary if you’re moving around actively (walking fast). Or if you didn’t apply enough lubricant initially / you don’t have a long-lasting lubricant. Both scenarios equal more stress for your posterior. In those two cases (you’re doing strenuous physical activity, or you don’t have good anal lubricant), I’d say no to “is it safe to keep a butt plug in all day?”

I believe it’s safest to not plug for more than 12 hours. I want to give my anal canal and sphincters a break for the night. I also have regular morning BMs, anywhere from 30 minutes after waking to an hour and a half afterward post-coffee. I’ll start plugging an hour after that.

IMO it feels similar to trying to not eat late at night – your gut needs a good 12-13 hour (maybe even 16 hrs. sometimes) rest span to let your stomach lining auto-repair. Potentially helping your immune system too. And this mini-fast helps keep your colon moving.

So, my choice is to give my ass a good 12 to 16 hour rest daily. Then, I take 2 to 3 days a week off from being butt plugged all day.

Some people do plug for much longer (up to days at a time), and that is very much their call. I’m not saying their choice is wrong, but it is more risky. Everyone must listen to their comfort level and play safe:

To get the most out of anal in the long run. All-day plugging has become a huge source of fun for me – I hope you found some good tips here and enjoy too!
